Thomas Jayakar, Prof.,

Currently Senior Consultant Dermatologist, Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, Chennai and Mehta Hospitals, Chennai, was formerly Professor and Head of Dermatology, and voluntarily retired from Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur, INDIA. He is known internationally for his academic interests. He is an alumnus of Stanley Medical College, Chennai, India, with under-graduate, post-graduate Masters and Doctorate from the same college. With about 25 years of post-graduate teaching experience he has published over 240 original scientific papers in National and International Journals, and has delivered over 150 Guest Lectures internationally.

Prof. Jayakar Thomas has authored chapters in Text Books of Dermatology, Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, and Allergy. He is the author of Pediatric Dermatology Ward Rounds that was released in January 2007. He co-founded global skin atlas (www.globalskinatlas.com) with Dr. Ian McColl from Australia and Dr. Shahbaz Janjua from Pakistan. He is also one of the contributors of dermatlas (www.dermatlas.org) of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.

He has been the National President of the Indian Association of Dermatology Venereology and Leprology (IADVL) in 1998. He is the recipient of several awards, notably the IADVL- Fulford Oration Award, the Bharath Jyothi Award, and the Mother Teresa International Award for academic excellence and achievements in the field of Dermatology.

He is the founder of the Indian Academy of Pediatric Dermatology. He is currently the National President of the Indian Society of Teledermatology. His special interests include Atopic Dermatitis, Pediatric Dermatology, Acne vulgaris, Hair Disorders, Bacterial Dermatoses, and Teledermatology. The IADVL presented the prestigious Prof. Dr. K.C. Kandhari Foundation Lifetime Acheivement Award to Prof. Jayakar Thomas , a voracious reader, masterly orator, and popular teacher.
